Just call Nora Jane Struthers “Classic Americana.” Her self-titled album, featuring eleven original “story” songs and collaborations by some of Nashville’s best pickers, is nothing short of a revelation to roots music fans.
It’s filled with affecting, literate compositions and vocals as pretty and homespun as the vintage dresses Nora Jane favors onstage. “It’s not really bluegrass, or old time, or folk--it’s all of these things,” says the young singer-songwriter, who was a high school English teacher before moving to Nashville to make music full time.
“I love the sound of bluegrass instruments--mandolin, banjo, guitar, acoustic bass…and Stuart Duncan’s fiddle is like another harmony voice on the record.” Her new album includes “Greenbrier County” and “Cowgirl Yodel #3.”
